~ KL Tower, KUALA LUMPUR~

. . . The landscape slips in and out of focus through ths darkness. The light from the highway illuminates occasional mansions, since converted to hotels, most probably, peeking from between the tree couered hills.

Welcome to Kuala Lumpur Malaysia. Situated in the south-west section of the Malaysian penninsula, a few hundred miles north of the equator.

The weather here is hot and ice cold. I say hot and cold because outside the humidity makes the heat almost unbearable, and inside it is freezing. I am sure the air conditioning units were made for industrial freezers and got misdirected in transit. It is freezing here!

The taxis are cheap though. I haue been in the taxi for 20mins now, and the meter says 9.70 (RM). That is about 2 pounds stirling or 5$US. Very inexpensive wouldn't you say? ~excerpt from 'Vibodha in Transit' (yet to be published) :)

Manmeet Singh gives us some important tips if travelling to Kuala Lumpur from Thailand or the North of Malaysia... below...

If Travelling to KL from Thailand or the North

Manmeet Singh (in KL) gives us his tips... from Butterworth there are three ways to Kuala Lumpur .... bus , train or plane ...

If you want to fly, you have to go to Penang first either by ferry or bus then take a cab to the airport but you lose a lot of time in KL by travelling from KLIA (KL International Airport) to Kuala Lumpur...

If you take the 2.00 train, you will reach KL by 9pm (approx) My
suggestion is to take the bus.

In Butterwoth the bus stop is called the 'Jetty' or 'Jeti' in Malay.

Take the 'plusliner' bus to kl. It takes about 4.5 - 5 hrs to reach KL. Once in KL, get a cab to your hotel or guest house.

If you can't get a plusliner bus, take the 'super coach' followed by the Seri Manja express. You should be able to get one of these buses.

Don't take any bus which a 'tout' promotes to you. Those buses take ages to reach KL. Buy your tickets only from the counter.

Plusliner buses are more diciplined. They stop only for 20 minutes along the way for makan and you reach KL really fast. Their counter in Butterworth is at the corner of the jetty bus stop (as you approach the bus stop it will be on the inner corner, right hand side of the building.)

Anyway, Plusliner buses have a schedule... either every hour or so...

If you got nothing but cash, you can hire a cab and have him drive you down to KL for a fee of abput RM200... hiring a cab is also available from the jetty at the end of the building.

Happy, safe travels.
