A Visit from the Parkhills, The Birth of Devon Anthony & Western Australia
- October 2003 -
A Walk, A Visit from Stewart & Carol Parkhill & Gifts from the United Kingdom - October 5th 2003

We were off for the month of October and in between getting things finalised we also took time for ourselves to enjoy the sunshine together.

Behind our house there is a beautiful bush walk which takes you down to the ocean.

This is one of the last times that there were just the two of us...my parents arrive later today!!

It was fantastic to see Mum and Dad at the airport!!

They had a great flight and were glad to have landed. The weather is awesome so I am glad about that!

We are so glad that they are here with us for this VERY special time, and to see the little one born!

Dad lost his Mum only a couple of weeks ago...goodbye Granny. He also lost his only sister about 6 weeks ago suddenly, so I feel this trip to welcome new life into the world is important for him and all the family.

Thanks Mum and Dad for coming!!

Not only did they bring themselves...but they brought over a stack of presents. A HUGE thanks to everyone who sent the lovely gifts for Devon [at that time unnamed].

A BIG THANKS TO...Russell & Tash, Catherine, Paul Rachel & Matthew, Auntie Fay, Tracey, Niki, Myrtle, Myra & Billy, Auntie Gwen, Cherrie, Elaine & John, Claire, Jim and Family and Sheena and David!!

A HUGE thanks, loads of gorgeous pressies that will be unique to devon here from the UK! This was a second baby shower!! You all have such great taste!!

Father-to-be's 31st Birthday & Mum and Dad's 40th Wedding Anniversary - CONGRATULATIONS!!
October 6th 2003

On the day Mum and Dad arrived it was their 40th wedding anniversary. CONGRATULATIONS.

The next day [6th october] was EJ [Vibodha's] 31st birthday. So we had a joint celebration. We took a walk into Fremantle to show Mum & Dad around and then in the evening had a lovely Chinese meal.

Kings Park, Perth, Western Australia
Tuesday, October 7th 2003

Taking advantage of the sunshine and the time with Mum and Dad before the baby we took a drive up to Perth and went to Kings Park.

This park overlooks Perth city as you can see, the view is spectacular. We had coffee and ice cream and took a leisurely stroll. Mum and Dad planned to take the next day to go on a tram tour of Fremantle and Perth and the Swan River Cruise...but this plan was to change at 7am the next morining....

"Labour" Day
Wednesday, October 8th 2003

It’s 7:00am.
We slowly wake from a peaceful ten hour sleep.
“Oooh,” I hear from the pillow next to me...

"Labour" Day
Wednesday, October 8th 2003

It all started at 7am on the morning of the 8th October when my waters broke.

It began with a few light contractions every three minutes or so.

I wondered “Is this it?!”

I do feel a little strange...

Baby Devon Anthony Clark
October 9th 2003 - Photos & Stories of Birth and After

Hello! My name is Devon. Devon Anthony Clark.

I was born at 01:21am on October the 9th, 2003 weighing 7lbs 7oz.

It's a pleasure to meet you.

I've been out of mummy's tummy for twelve days now.

It's my twelve-day-old birthday today!

This was me the day I was born with my mum.

You can see PHOTOS of what mummy and I went through to get me here by reading about Mum's first-hand experience here: "The Birth of Devon Anthony Clark"

There is also a power point presentation you can download with large photographs of me [see below].

This is my daddy.

He's very proud.

He has taken me for walks around the house, and he and mummy have played lots and lots of music for me.

This is me only a few minutes after I was born, with my Dad.

Dad Paints a Picture
Friday 17th October, 2003

Life with Devon is fun and we are still finding time to dfo the things that we love to do.

E.J. (Vibodha) bought a canvas with the money Mum and Dad gave him for his birthday and we taak the morning together painting and dancing!

The painting is already hung on the bedroom wall. Dad intends to use Devon's little feet as part of the picture...

Devon meets Crests
Sunday 19th October

Our neighbours Tony and Aya, who are wonderful, just had a their little boy Crest four months before Devon.

Look at the difference in size already!!

[Aya says she already cannot remember Crest ever being that small, but he was.]

This is Crest.

I believe it could be the forming of a beautiful and long lasting friendship.

Nannie & Grampa Parkhill

It is so beautiful to see my Mum and Dad with Devon, they are so loving with him and it is a wonderful feeling.

They give him lots of nursing and cuddles and it allows Vibodha and I to take time to be together and to get some the of things we need to do done!

Mum sings "Horsey Horsey" to Devon and it puts hm to sleep.

He waits until he is with her to test out all his new bodily functions!! [FUNNY!]

Growing Boy

Devon does NOT appear to have red hair so far.

The red hair you see is mine!! Cute though eh?!

[This is what happens when he's hungry!!]

Nirav and Vistara have visited Devon several times in the last few weeks.

They call him 'Little Buddha Boy' which suits us fine.

As you can see, he is content to be cuddled.

Manning Park Adventures
Devon & Dad Go a'Walking

Being a newborn, Devon loves to be carried.

So, leaving mommy to a much needed rest, we ventured out to Davilak Lake in Manning Park.

Me on foot, Devon riding happily in the baby carrier.

We did this for several days, up around the lake, over to our friend Nis's house in Spearwood, and yesterday (the 31st) up onto the Davilak Heritage Trail overlooking the surrounding countryside.

From the Watchtower above Manning Park you can see this >> beautiful view of the Indian Ocean.

We live approximately the same distance from the beach (possibly a little closer.)

The Dunes you see are the start of Coogee Beach.

The local government and developers are planning to destroy and put in a land-reclamation housing development. Personally I am against this development see he Coogee Coastal Action Coalition for more information. We attended the 2004 Coogee Beach Rally. You can see photos of the rally HERE - The Coogee Rally.

This is a view of Davilak Lake in Manning Park.
The lake is a bird haven with flocks of parrots, ducks, seagulls and the famous Western Australian Black Swans (photo below).
