The Babymoon - August
2003 Like a Honeymoon but pre-baby |
Sipping Chai tea… sitting upstairs in
our warm little haven of seclusion…the perfect place
for our “BabyMoon”.
We took the time out [10 days in all] to relax with each other
before the arrival of the “little one” into our
lives. We are staying in Dunsborough, where we were briefly
before.
Leaving
Perth on Wednesday morning, we cruised our way down to Dunsborough,
for the 3-hour trip south.
We packed everything that we would possibly need for the
10-day trip, we had all the luxuries with us including candles
and scented oils for taking luxurious baths. |
We had organic dates by the handful, vegetarian
cookbooks and some new ingredients ready to indulge ourselves
with delicious and nutritious culinary delights.
We are excited to be here, who wouldn’t be? In our
own self-contained cottage, with a wood burner, piles of
ready chopped wood, surrounded by 300 acres of natural bush
land, filled with organic fruit literally falling off the
trees and kangaroos for company.
Of
course having this experience with Vibodha (E.J.) is the
greatest of them all, he is such an amazing husband, so
gentle and so kind and so loving.
We are having a wonderfully memorable time. |
I
have just woken up from a lazy afternoon nap [Monday], the
tiredness sometimes gets the better of me and I rest and
recuperate.
This time I was soothed to sleep by Vibodha laying his
hand on my tummy playing gently with our baby’s feet.
|
Baby Mai is playing around
loads now kicking and moving and seemingly having fun in
there!!
We are just as delighted on the outside,
expressing love and surprise at every new movement and wriggle. |
|
|
| What did we DO on the Babymoon? Lots! |
| Thursday we took it really easy, just resting
and relaxing, taking walks and baths and preparing soup.
I had two “Journeys” booked in from clients
who were down south and it seemed a perfect time to facilitate
them so that was my day.
On the Journey day, Friday, Vibodha went out adventuring
and exploring and he will tell you all about his intrepid
voyages!! - see Climbing
Sugarloaf Rock |
He
discovered some amazing things about this area and some
fun adventures that we could do.
On Saturday, with the sunshine beating down from above,
we headed south to Augusta on the South Western tip of Australia.
This is me (and baby) at Cape Leeuwin, Western Australia,
where two
oceans meet... click to see more photos. |
|
|
| Margaret River, Western Australia |
On the way to Augusta
we passed through Margaret River, a charming place with
lots to see and do.
Margaret River is situated in Western Australia’s
South West premier wine region and is located inland between
Cape Naturaliste and Cape Leeuwin.
[Famous for the Cape-to-Cape
walk].
This
region is also popular with the surfers.
(Though I have
to say, surfing in a rainstorm is a little much... these
Australians, I tell you...)

|
| The Karri Forest, Western
Australia |
Next
we took the scenic drive through the pretty “karri”
trees of Boranup Forest stopping the car to hear the sound
of strange birds and combined only with deep and pure silence,
simply divine!
A picnic lunch later and further south we made our way
to Hamelin Bay. |
The
Hamelin Bay Area is all sacred Aboriginal Women’s
Land.
The bay was sweeping with pure white sand and the ruins
of the pier were amazing. |
|
|
| Hamelin Bay, Western
Australia |
Reading
the history of the pier brought all sorts of things to my
mind and imagination.
Only 100 years before this area was busy with ships coming
into the Hamelin Bay Port, built to accommodate the karri
wood industry. (photo 1)
|
Looking
out into the sea on the deserted beach was a strange sensation
when comparing it to the past. (photo

Ordinarily we tend to watch things being built and growing.
The elderly have to tolerate immense new changes to their
landscape.
In this case it was shockingly obvious - the change. |
| How I longed to be able to open my eyes and
step back in time to relive that time and to hear the noises
and feel the atmosphere. [Maybe we
will work out time travel in my lifetime, now that would be
FUN!!]. |
We
took a walk up to the Hamelin Bay lookout and a man walking
by said, “Taking the family for a walk?” (Me
being pregnant and all.)
That made us smile!!
We continued on our journey… to…
guess where?…
To SEE THE WHALES…yes…we went whale watching
at 2pm that afternoon. See
the Whales in Augusta, click here. |

| Harry Potter, Fruit Salad and a Roaring
Fire |
| We moved up to our nest upstairs, having lit
a roaring fire on the burner, which circulates the heat up
to the bedroom. Vibodha [EJ] read more of Harry Potter [The
Order of the Phoenix] and we are almost at the end. It wasn’t
long before we drifted off to sleep after a very fun and action
packed day filled with exquisite sights and great experiences!!
For the next two days we lay low and relaxed in the comfort
of our little studio haven.
We talked, read, researched on the Internet, created our
baby birth plan, made our list of things still to get ready
for the birth and eat delicious nutritious cuisine.
We
made fresh fruit salad from the fruits in the orchard and
drank healthy lemon and lime water – yum!
We took the dog, Bindi, for long walks in the bush too. |

|
| Busselton, WA -
the two km pier |
On
Wednesday we headed out to Busselton, which is about 20km
away from Dunsborough.
It is famous for its Jetty which is the longest
wooden structure in the Southern Hemisphere.
We walked it. Four kilometers there and back.

| Yallingup Rocks,
WA - a climb to remember |
When visiting the coast,
near Yallingup, I was reminded of the time, as a child in
Portstewart, County Antrim, Northern Ireland when I would
watch the waves come pounding in over the harbour wall,
screaming with delight! |
It was quite scary at first . The waves
were so big I thought I might have been soaked.
I wanted to run away.
E.J. said, “you’ll be fine, just stay there,
you'll see...”
I
did and had great fun!
He, on the otherhand climbed out on to the top of it!
See the photos of Yallingup

| Alex
and Lesley arrive on a RTW trip |
It
was a great delight to be the host of Alex and Lesley when
they visited Perth on their round the world trip.
Thank goodness they came, as they definitely added to the
adventure of this month... cake making and all!
Also, our great friend Nirav was over from Thailand. It
was nice to have friends from two worlds meet. |

|
| The
Surprise Baby Shower - YES! YES! YES! |
Well,
what can I say.
It worked!
She DEFINITELY was surprised!!
See
it for YOURSELF HERE
Who would have guessed that only 1 hour previously she
was sitting on the beach? |
(She
subsequently fell asleep and rested the whole time).
She didn't suspect a thing!
It was a moment to remember:
Tila's
Big Surprise!
The Surprise
Baby Shower
You know what?
She even made a CAKE for
the party (without knowing it, of course).
Read about how Cake
Making in the morning with Lesley was a perfectly delicious
diversion. |

And that's that for this month.
Only one more month just the two of us...
