A trip to Dunsborough.
June 2003 |
We
explored the South of Western Australia.
We left in the early morning of Sunday to make our way on the three-hour
trip to Dunsborough.
We did not know what to expect, though we knew it was on the coast! |
We
arrived at our friend’s house, which is set in 300 acres of
natural bush land. They have a home built property, which took them
4 years to build themselves, and the grounds are absolutely beautiful.
The look out over their own private lake, and they grow over 60
fruits and vegetables and are fully sustainable – what a wonderful
life they life. |
We
were staying in the cottage, which was fully self-catering, equipped,
and WARM.
It was great.
We were staying there for 3 days and settled in well.
Part of our visit was spent learning about Learning Difficulties,
which Gillian has a PHD theory on and is designing a CD Rom that
we are assisting her to put together.
It was great to see her in action and to understand more about
her theory. |

We had plenty of time to relax too as well as doing the adventurers
thing!! |
We took a long Cliffside walk to
the Naturaliste Lighthouse nearby which was great.
|
| The ocean was so huge and we really got in touch with
nature and the world around us. |

The coastline feels very like the North Antrim Coastline, Northern
Ireland, so I felt very at home. |
The
next morning we went for a walk in the grounds of their house and
stumbled across loads of kangaroos just hoping around in front of
us. |
They were much quicker than we expected
them to be!!
I was beginning to wander whether kangaroos really
did just wander around the place or whether that was a common fallacy…but
it IS TRUE!! |
| The
town of Dunsborough is really pretty. It is quite a new town, which
is really growing in size.
We saw the most desirable lots for sale overlooking the ocean going
for between $775,000 and $1.4 million!!
We are going down south again for a week before the baby is born.
We'll show you then...

Lockout The
middle of Nowhere, WA - June 2003 |
We stopped to view the ocean and take a short
walk to the lookout.
I
locked the front doors, and lifted the things from the back seat
to put into the boot of the car.
I shut the back door and reached for the front door to pop the
boot. Oops. It's locked... I'll go in the back door. Oops. Oops.
Oh no!
Yep. it's the middle of the bushland, we're on a road with no passing
motorists, and we're locked out.
If only I had a coat-hanger... yep there's one, but it's inside
the car. Water? Inside. Swiss army knife? Yes, you guessed it...
in the car.
Oh dear.
As far as I could see there was only one way to look at it. Panic
didn't seem appropriate, as that never helps any situation.
Resoursefulness, that's what's needed. I decided to look on it
as a GAME... As if some grand force was saying, "I wonder how
he'll cope with this..."
I considered smashing the small corner window, but that was definitely
a last resort. After 20 minutes of searching I found a large metal
hook (Lisa was up at the road, waiting for passer's by).
I used the hood to undo the metal binding that was nailed into
the parking lot border fence. Then I bent, twisted and cajoled the
wire into the slot between the window and the door.
Ten
minutes later the car was open and we were on our way.
YES YES YES!!!
We were undaunted and unstoppable. |

A Visit from Nirav
June 2003 |
Our
great friend Nirav arrived in Perth for a five-day getaway from
Thailand.
It was great to spend some quality time with him.
Perhaps he will be back in Perth sooner than we expect. Eh, Nirav? |

| A Visit from the Singh's |
As
always, it is great to see Nirmaljit and family.
The whole family (all five of them) came over to visit Western
Australia for a few days, and we had the opportunity to hang out
with them. |
I
realised just how acclimatised we become to the climate we live
in when the girls were still cold in our house - we had the fire
on full blast!!
There's lots more to tell, but we'll wait another few months to
do that... |

| A Cocktail Party |
It
was interesting being invited to a Cocktail Party when we don't
drink alcohol!!
However, the non-alcoholic drinks were delicious. |
It
was a night to remember... (which is my
way of saying that I actually COULD remember what happened that
night, as opposed to what it would have been like had I been a drinker...)
|
Danielle's parents, as helpful as ever, assisted in making the night
a spectacular event.
Thanks! |
This
is our great friend Cassandra. She and her husband Jeff were also
at the party.
They are owners of the famous Walkers Candy
Company in Perth.

Two Tonnes of Firewood
June 2003 |
| Ever
wondered what two tonnes actually feels like?
I no longer have to wonder. |
|
When I saw that the truck could not make it up our driveway, I said
'dump it.'
I suppose I could have gotten the car out before hand...
Ah well. |
Twenty
three wheelbarrows full of wood, all the way up the driveway.
|
I
had a few strange looks when I told my friends this... apparently
it's nothing to move that much wood in a day...
However, they don't have a driveway like ours... uphill all the
way... |
