Globaltickit adventures into the Jungle
THE JUNGLE EXPERIENCE
Khao Sok National Park, Thailand
by Tila
This is our accommodation when we stayed in the Khao Sok National Park.
Our hut was right beside a babbling river, under the most spectacular limestone cliffs and in its own little space of land with another bungalow.

It was RIGHT OUTSIDE our bungalow which meant we could walk right outside and swim in the river.

This place costs £9.50 per night. It is also possible to stay in a tree house as well. It is Our Jungle House and its in all the guide books.

It is described as the "most romantic" of all the Jungle accommodation and it definitely is.

The walk through the Jungle at night to the huts is crazy. The pathway is lined with torches and lamplight and the sounds you hear are so far removed from our sounds.

And you search for snakes and scorpions at night in your bedroom and bathroom!

We took a very leisurely canoe trip through Khao Sok National Park. The scenery was beautiful. The sun was beating down and we went with our friends: Hello to Irene, Vitorio, Stella, Bruce, Jill, Leicester, Matthew, Emma and Jens!
We have been having great fun here, the family are really friendly and we have been hanging out together in the evenings as well around our camp fire outside, which EJ builds every night.

This is Damien. He is 3 and speaks fluent Thai and English.

It is funny to ask a 3 year old "what is the Thai word for .......?" and he knows the answer! Neat!

Francis is from Belfast and is good fun. He's the guy in the photo left. It's good to hear an accent from home.

All Thais have nicknames and francis is married to Tim (woman, left).

Damien is actually their grandson. In Thai life it is quite common for the bringing up of children to skip a generation.

They invited us to their farm for the day, and we ate traditional Thai cuisine which Tim's sister cooked. YUM!

Thai girls can have children as young as 15 yrs old and then their parents look after the child.

This means they will be older and more able to look after their child's child later!

Quite a neat idea really.

I have also been in the kitchen learning to cook.

I hope to be able to make the Clark household a delicious Thai meal when I get to Philly, so watch this space!

We spent a full day trekking up to a spectacular lake of Kharst formations within Khao Sok.

Then we visited a rafthouse which is cute. The bedrooms are little grass huts and your front door opens out onto the lake and in the morning when you want to cool down from the heat, just open your door and JUMP!

The raft house, the whole thing is floating on the lake.

It's like living in Waterworld!

Life is very slow here.

When I closed my eyes, I felt as if I was on a boat.

it was so calming.

From the raft house we trekked into the jungle.

Khao Sok National Park requires that all visitors be accompanied by a guide.

Here you can see what walking through the jungle really looks like...

Part of the trek involved a cave. We did not realise it was a cave we had to go THROUGH. The actual trek path led THROUGH part of a mountain.

In the cave there were hundreds of bats hanging upside down, and water coursing through the ancient chasm.

The water was too deep we had to swim through many parts of the cave - I don't remember this being on the trek description!

I was surprised that I actually did it!

Hooray.

We saw frogs, and spiders and other insect things as well as stalagtites and stalagmites.
A JUNGLE FRUIT!

ELEPHANT RIDES - Another trip into Khao Sok

Its amazing to actually feel the muscles of an elephant working underneath you.

We had a turn sitting on the neck of the elephant. Pure energy.

We then to a waterfall and bathed underneath it. It was like getting a Thai massage. The water was refreshing.

MONKEYS

We went to the neighbouring Bungalow complex, called Arts Riverside and EJ borrowed a man's shorts to cross over the river to see the monkeys close up.

This is a picture of the monkeys but he is not pleased with the quality of the photography!

All in all our Jungle Experience was so good that we are going back their to spend a few more days before we make our way through Malaysia on route to Singapore.
