Flower Festival 2003
Chiang Mai, Thailand

Quick Jump down the page to The Parade...

The parade rocked the streets while the flower-laden floats wafted past the international crowd.

The streets were laden with flowers of all shapes, colours and sizes.

The Flowers of the Festival

The flowers were exquisite.

The scents were only rivalled by the beauty of these perfectly coloured living things.

My appreciation for the natural beauty of our world has been enhanced by this experience.

Some of the flowers (and fruit and vegetables) had to be labled so we would know what they were.

However we don't yet read Thai, but they sure were beautiful...

Some of the garden displays were so perfect I felt like walking up onto them and taking a nap on the lawn.

But of course, they were exhibitions.

I did, however, get a new insight into what feeling I want our garden to eminate.

I love these.

The purple just glows!

And the smell of these white ones...

...unbelievable.

These ones remind me of spiders, but in a much more beautiful way.

The rose grower's group also had a display.

Look at all the gorgeous roses surrounding the sign!!!

As I mentioned in our Diary, the Flower Festival displays were situated in the South West corner of the Old City, just inside the city walls (and moat).

If you get a chance to visit Chiang Mai in the spring, I highly recommend taking the opportunity to see it for yourself.

Not to mention the Parade!!! That's a must-see!
The Parade

The floats for the Festival were entirely decorated with flowers.

We took a walk around the neighbourhood the day before the parade and saw a group of Thai women decorating one of the Floats.

They say it took them two days... isn't it beautiful?

We watched the parade from our favourite restaurant on Thae Pae road.

It was an excellent vantage point.

Lisa says that this photo totally captures Thailand for her.

I wholeheartedly agree.

The parade began with a banner and a float.

And as you know the floats are covered in flowers.

Even the elephant is totally covered with small white flowers.

This sure was an aromatic experience.

Stunning.

Surrounded by flowers.

Sailing down the road.

Smiling.

And then the music began.

Marching bands filled the streets with sweet rhythms.

It reminded me much of a 4th of July parade in America.

In fact, this band was dressed like the American Indians.

Their music was much more modern, and Lisa followed them down the road just to be able to hear more of their music.

And the floats kept coming.

A close up of the above
float for you to see.

Did I mention the Festival Parade was phenomenal?

It was a joy to behold.

There were floats depicting the life of the
Thais as well as that of the world.

If you're going to say it,
why not say it
with flowers, eh?

All and all a Globaltickit Recommendation.

Thank you Thailand.

Thank you Chiang Mai.

Thank you flowers.
