| More cute dragon and
lizard creatures adorning the outside of a Chiang Mai Temple. |
|
|
You
just see these sights pratically on every street corner!! |
|
|
These
are examples of the beautiful paintings on the walls of many of
the temples here. |
|
|
This are the
spires of the temple to the right. |
This temple
has suffered a fire, the inside was ruined and the statues and Buddha's
were preserved. See below. |

This is an example
side street down by the river. Thai people live here and they seem
very happy. The narrow lane to the right hand side of these houses
is the road we take back home from Chiang Mai, we are very familiar
with this area. Behind these lanes is what appears to be the closest
thing Chiang Mai has to a "red light district". We pass
by young girls scantily clad in the evenings on the bike ride home.

A shop display
of "rambitan" in cans- not sure if I spelt this right,
I'll ask Nirav. It is a fruit! |
|
These
are a few views of the moat [and city walls] that surround the city.
It is beautifully decorated and it makes this city not only beautiful
but so easy to get around. I have been driving the motorbike to
the dentist and it is such a joy to drive around this place. Very
little traffic and the people are so friendly. |

|
This is EJ/Vibodha
just putting his shoes back on after being in a temple. The custom
for most places here is to remove your shoes before entering the
building. I have to take my shoes off before going into the dentist!!
[They leave a selection of plastic shoes at the door so you can
wear a pair if you do not want to walk around in your bare feet],
we do not use them. |

Every
Sunday day & night in Chiang Mai there is a market held on
Thae Pae Road, the main road that our favourite restaurant is
on. The atmosphere there is amazing.
Here are more photos below...

These are the
amazing drummer boys. I do not know much about them, but I do see
that there do not appear to be any adults with them and they seem
to be very well trained and having a lot of fun!! They seem to be
great friends with each other. We have seen 2/3 groups of these
drummers at the Sunday market. |
| |
|
|
This is another
typical sight here in Chiang Mai, these are mostly pulled by older
men, some of the men seem like they must be 75 years old, and still
so fit. The younger guys tend to drive the tuk tuk's. |
|
|
|
|
Here
are some shots of the night fruit market which happens to be just
round the corner - literally - from our hotel. It is a treat!! This
is where we have been getting all the delicious ingredients for
our great fresh fruit salads...I will have to show you pictures
of past treats!! I never thought I would see the day when I was
happily eating fresh fruit and drinking water, instead of a mars
bar and can of coke!!
|
I do not know what these strange
fruits are!!!! ...
Alien heads!!
|
|
|
Freshly
opened garlic pods...hundreds of them. The women sit there un shelling
the garlic as they sell from their stall. I do not know how all
these stall owners survive - there are 40plus other stalls selling
the same things! |
|
|
|
|
|
The children
mostly come in with their mums to be at the stalls. You do see men
there too, but Thailand is a matriarchal society with the women
ruling the roost and looking after the money etc. and the men tend
to do the work/labour etc. |
|
|
This is Robert and Richard, 2
great American guys we have met who live here in Chiang Mai. They
are in our favourite restaurant - Tuk Tuk's Organic restaurant
on Thae Pae Road.
I will get you a picture of Tuk
too!
|
The food is
delicious and we pay on average 75baht for a meal for 2 - that is
a huge soup, with lots of tofu and vegetables and a stir fired vegetables
with brown rice - yum - that is about $1.75 for the two!!! No wonder
I'm smiling!! |

|
Taking
a day trip!!! |
|
|
One of our aforementioned
fruit delights!! |
See the bananas
grow fresh on the trees! |
|
This is a typical
sight for Chiang Mai. This man is riding on quite bumpy roads, using
his motorbike and a little side car, effectively a travelling salesman,
and he is carrying EGGS!!! |
All the street
signs are decorated like this. Chiang Mai certainly knows how to
create a beautiful place - flowers everywhere, moat, beauty |
|
|
This is the outside of the post
boxes.
