Life in a Burmese Border Town

Welcome to Burma

The little children beggars are everywhere and they come running up to you immediately they see you with their hands outstretched. No sign of any parents or guardians around - I am sure they cannot be orphans though.

Above and below are pictures of the many "stuff" sellers. They have lighters, mini tool kits, little electrical gadgets. They seem to below to local shops and they just walk around and keep asking you to buy from them.

It is amazing to see these young girls doing something like that all day long everyday.

They don't appear to be in school.

This is where we bought a strange looking and strange tasting large dried fruit thing - it looked like a large apricot but we couldn't really get into the taste of it.

They sell lots of jewellery, gold, silver, gems and jade.

A food stall.

This young girl has 2 children already. The one on her back and another little boy who was running around begging. I paid her 10baht [25c] for this photograph. She has trained the baby to put out its hand for the money she does not do it! She was really friendly.

People waiting around for transportation presumably to take them back out of the town.

This is Vibodha feeding the children. They just gathered around, they immediately ate the food he gave them so they must have been hungry and then stood with their hands out for more.

You just see views like this one everywhere you look. The culture is so different from what we have known, people sell their food and fruits in these type of baskets and they just walk around the streets until someone wants to buy. They frequently stop in front of the shops for the shop owners to buy their food.
