Our Roman Holiday

This is Rome.

From our perspective.

What can we say about the majestic, ancientness that is Rome?

The first thing I noticed was that it had many water features.

The public transportation was good. Devon enjoyed the bus rides.
And the baby-backpack.

The world looked different.

At every turn a new treat for the senses.

What made it even MORE beautiful of an experience was that i did it with my two favourite people (no offence everyone else).

Water

Water

Everywhere.

And lots of it to drink.

The fountains are fed by natural water springs and are a great way of re-hydrating yourself while touring the streets of Rome.

This is the fountain of the Barcaccia located at the base of the Spanish Steps. (photos below)

Mother and baby on the Spanish Steps.

Devon smells the flowers...

Ciao!

Ciao!

Ciao!

The first day we walked past the Vatican the line was so long to get into the Vatican Museums i HAD to take a picture to remember it.

Which turned out to be PERFECT.

We skipped the museums and walked straight upon St Peter's Square.

A breathtaking sight.

Are these guys 'holy' because they pray a lot?

Monks I think pray and meditate a lot.

Do these Catholics?

it is definitely MONUMENTAL, that's for sure.

Our 'zen meandering' led us into a line.

For what?

I don't know. Neither does Tila.

Ah well, we'll see.

Ah, the Cupola...

What's a cupola?

I don't know.

I guess we'll see...

Do we want the ticket for the elevator (for 11 euros) or the ticket for the stairs (6 euros).

One glance at eachother and it was clear.

Elevator!

And we took the elevator up into the Cupola...

Into the top of St. Peters.

Marvelous.
Marvelous.

Marvelous.

Can we get higher? YES? Okay, up the stairs into the sunlight...

What can I say?
Monumental.

Yes, Devon is sleeping.

At the top of St. Peters in Rome.

Asleep.

And back down...

The half-way house before the final descent in the elevator.

And what a view!

The final step led out into the body of St. Peter's cathedral.

The eyes immediately went UP.

And what a sight it was to behold.

We have been very aware of the imagery that we 'input' into our psyche.

The visit to St. Peter's was magestic, yet full of fear, danger, and dominance.

You can see what I mean... can't you?

Then we visited the Trevi Fountain.

It's so big it looks like a pond in the middle of a city surrounded by ornate sculptures of horses and gods.

You know, everyday stuff really...

My beloved.

And my baby and me.

Passing the Fountain of the Triton.

And home...

For a good night's sleep.

In the morning...

The Vatican Museums and a visit to the Sistine Chapel.

Michaelangelo.

And a few hundred other visitors.
But once inside, it was a delight. I hereby term the Vatican "The Painted Palace." For every square inch of the inside of the building was covered with painting.
Like these, on the walls of a single room...

And of course, we finally make it to the Sistine Chapel.

NO TALKING, NO PHOTOGRAPHY!!

Okay.
This site is about SHARING what we see, and our thoughts and feelings on those things. So HERE IT IS, The Sistine Chapel.
Mother and baby enjoy the view of Michelangelo's masterpiece.

Thank you Michelangelo, you made the world (and that tall chapel) a more colourful place.

See what I mean about being PAINTED!

Amazing. Beautiful. Delight.

The next day, off to the Collosseum.

Old.

Very old.

We didn't go inside seeing as we didn't want to input all the horrible things that human beings used to do before we became civilized. We are civilized now, aren't we?

However, it made a beautiful backdrop for these lovely photos of us at the Collosseum.

Here's proof.

He waves.

Ciao.

Ciao.

Bellissimo Bambino.

What was our experience of the Colosseum from the outside?

Here goes...

Breathtaking.
Breathtaking.
Breathe.
And then home to bed.
Another wonderful day on the planet.
