It was certainly an adventure getting here. 1.5 hours in the car, 50 minutes on the train.

We to get early into the line at the

We arrived in Florence around 8am as we wanted out first port of call to be Ufizzi Gallery. The Uffizi is "THE" Art Gallery in Florence.

We heard that the queues are very long. Even though we arrived early, alas, so did many others!

We waited in line for about an hour and were excited to enter around 9.15am.

(You can see the queue here!)

Well, we took a tour of the Ufizzi museum (no photography, it said, but I have never been a big fan of rules!!).

This is from the window overlooking the market-bridge.

These are the only ones I could get my darling husband to take... he sometimes really sticks to the no-photography rule (except in Rome... you'll see).

I felt that it was important to get some pictures to share our experiences with you!

This is what this website is about... sharing parts of the world...

Anyway, it IS very beautiful, isn't it?

So here's some of the paintings, ceilings & corridors of the Ufizzi.

I expected to see more of the paintings from the Renaissance artists that I studied for my A- level. I was quite disappointed, with only Giotto & Botticelli really shining through!

Devon fell asleep in Dad's arms, however it was HOT outside and Dad needed to change into shorts. I'm amazed that he can do that and hold a SLEEPING baby Devon at the same time...so amazing a took a pic!

We only stayed at the gallery for a couple of hours, not the half day we had expected...so we got out early ready to explore this world famous city, described as "the most beautiful city in Italy"...we had high expectations after Venice!!

So we wandered, in the heat of the day around this city. The buildings looked great and it was amazing to be wandering around Florence after hearing so much about it. You can see some of the exquisite sights below.

As we got hungrier and hotter we made our way to the church we watned to see which was described so beautifully in our "ROUGH GUIDE TO ITALY" book.

I can't remember the name of it at this moment sorry. But it was beautiful on the inside.

This is it on the outside...

and this is it on the inside...
So after that is all starts to come to a head. With the heat and the hunger coming on and having carried Devon on our backs now non-stop for about 4 hours we start to flag and need to find a place to rest.

We make our way towards the park area on the map, much like we did when we went to Venice.

We found however that the ONLY piece of grassland in this entire city is attached to a palace, you have topay to get in and it is really quite far away.

This was really our expereince of Florence, that it is a very "hard" place, with not much positive and light energy.

It feels like all the oppressive things that happened there over time have congeeled and have found no outlet to escape.

There were some lovely views of the city from the palace though.

We ate our lunch overlooking a fountain and decided we had seen enough of Florence and started to make our way back to the train station.

This is an example of a gelati shop, this one is in Florence
yumm!
Here are some final photographs we took of the Duomo just for you!

And little Devon had the right idea!

Anyone know where you can get an adult one of these back packs?

A reasonable time in Florence...pretty but harsh.
