| We
did a circuit of Lough Gill taking in the Pilgrimage Shrine and Holy Well
at Tobernalt Legend has it that St Patrick's fingers are imprinted on
the top of the Mass rock. |
This
is the area where the community gathered in secret to hold their mass
as to do so in public would risk their lives. |

| Travelling
on we came to Parkes Castle which is a fine example of a fortified Manor
House of the Plantation Period. |

We then made our way past Colga Lake and came to Hazelwood where we had
a walk and some some famous sculptures. |

| We
visited Mullaghmore where Lord Mountbatton was blown up by the IRA. His
magnificent castle is still there and occupied. We went to see a memorial
to three ships from the Spanish Armada which had foundered near the village
of Streedagh. |

| We
then made our way to Creevukeel Court Tomb regarded as the finest examdple
of a classic Court Tomb. Following the Harvard expedition of 1935 four
cremated burials, Western Neolithic Pottery and flints were found believed
to date between 3000-3500 BC. We also visited Glencar Waterfall - a magnificent
sight. |
