The Asses of Evil
P R O T E S T - F O R - P E A C E

Well,

I don't know if you heard, but there was a rather large protest last Sunday in NYC. I was fortunate enough to be part of it and it was a marvelous experience.

Did any of you go? I'd like to hear your take on it.

I did not bring my digital camera, not knowing what I would get into. I regretted it immediately because it was very peaceful.

I did take 2 disposable cameras and took pictures of all the signs and banners and people, and I'll post some here when I get them.

I didn't see too much coverage of the protest (can't afford cable), and hope that what you saw of it was the peaceful march that it was.

I know that someone set fire to a big banner/dragon thing, and Chris and I were caught in the middle of it but we got out in time. Dumb asses.

Besides that it was lovely.

There were families, old people, young people, rich people, poor people, lots of fat people, and tons of protests, not just on the war, but on health care (I am not with health care, I cannot afford it), economy (Mr. Schwarzenegger calling people out of work 'economic girlie-men' is disgusting and a slap in the face), women's rights, gay rights, all rights, and environment (anybody hear of global warming? According to Bush "the jury is still out on global warming" and "the jury is still out on evolution".

There were some anarchists who were freaky and wore ski masks.

That was silly.

I just wanted to share that being part of that protest was incredible for me. I took place in a few other small ones, didn't get arrested, and am very happy to be part of this changing world.

I hope that what you saw on TV was the positive side of the protests.

There were lots of arrests, and some things got out of hand but for every freak who hit a cop (and vice versa), there were thousands who just wanted to be heard and did it respectfully.

Violence gets us nowhere...

So I proudly wore my "Asses of Evil" T-shirt (a take on Bush's Axis of
Evil/You are with us or against us bullcrap) with Bush and Cheney's face silk-screend on.

There were many more banners, signs, and T-shirts: "I voted in 2000 and all I got was this lousy president" (T shirt) "My Bush smells like shit" (HUGE banner on 7th Ave and 30th) "Draft the Bush twins" (banner) "Plant a tree, not a Bush" (banner) "No more Bushit" (sign) and there was a lovely picture of the Democratic and Republican symbols (elephant and donkey) gettin' it on doggie style in a "Make love, not war" sign.

There was a great sense of seriousness too, but I'm sharing some funny sunny stuff with you.

There was so much to take in.

I hope you all get to take part (if you feel the need) in the next two months.

If you were there on Sunday or took place in any other protests for the GOOD in this world, please tell me how it was for you.

see ya,

Shawn
