Hong Kong -
Final Destination on our RTW trip 2004 |
| |

It was early in the morning when we arrived in Hong Kong.
The public transportation (train) into Hong Kong and Kowloon was
a marvelous feat of ingenuity and technical craftsmanship.
Together with the GREAT support staff, Hong Kong went straight
to the top of the 'great for visitors' list. |
Good job Hong Kong!

|
| What
was our impression of Hong Kong?
Busy and in motion.
|

High tech too!
Their underground transportation system was EASY, with guides,
lights and directions posted everywhere. |
We found a great vegetarian restaurant around the corner from our
hotel and enjoyed a couple of meals there.
Devon, as always, enjoying the ride. |
Every
evening, Hong Kong lights up in a scheduled light-show.
We walked to the harbour and watched the lights fill the night.
|
|
 |
Devon loved it too!
Especially as it was something he can 'talk' to us about.
Light!
|
 He
has a 'baby sign' for the word 'light' which is reaching up above
his head and opening and closing his hand. |
 |

I couldn't resist taking this photograph.
So Hong Kong-ish.
|
|
| The following day we visited a temple to see what the
spiritual life of Hong Kong was like. |
 Out
of the underground, it looked like we'd arrived. There were people
selling incense, spiritual danglies and the like. |
|
|
|
|
Devon was received with delight.
I know that little boys are 'good luck' and I suppose a little,
white, red-haired, blue-eyed baby in a temple was cause for much
joy.
I got the impression that if he waved to them they felt good
luck was bestowed.
Devon responded, waving, smiling, to the delight of everyone.

We saw many people come with small tubes filled with long sticks.
They would face the centre shrine, kneel, close their eyes and
begin to shake the small tubes.
Anywhere from a few moments to a few minutes would pass until suddenly
a stick would fall out onto the pavement. |
The person would rise, look at the stick, bow, and
walk away.
What were they doing?
Fortune telling... |
| Okay,
let's try it.
I go first.

|
So we had our fortunes read.
Tila's fortune: Don't spend too much money.
Not what she wanted to hear. |
Me?
"Everywhere you walk, blooms. Great
success."
Just what I wanted to hear! |
Devon's:
Healthy boy, no problems, no sickness, good for growing. Lucky boy.
|
| |
The
gardens of the temple were beautiful, even the turtles thought so.
See.
Happy turtle. |
|
The gardens even had waterfalls! |
|
| By this time, I needed a stretch. |
 |
I don't know if you can see it, but there is pain on my face. This
was the last time I carried Devon for six weeks.

|
|
|
|
 Devon
is loving the trip. |
We
went downtown into Hong Kong iteslf. It reminded me very much of
Kuala Lumpur and Singapore.
Asian cities are quite a combination of old colonial architecture
and new, modern shiny towering buildings. They are so clean. Quite
'proper' really. |
|
We toured Hong Kong Island on the top deck of a trolly. |
|
And
ate mexican for our final meal before heading to the airport to
catch our plane back to Perth.
The end of the 2004 Round the World trip, thank you Hong Kong.
"Now that was a GREAT trip" says Devon.
It sure was, my little man, it sure was!
