THE PINNACLE ADVENTURE...

It is really amazing the natural wonders this world
has to offer.
A Jaunt to the Pinnacles National Park in WESTERN AUSTRALIA

Delicious fruit was for sale on the 3 hour journey up..
The scenery isn't that spectacular on the drive.
We arrived around 6pm in time to catch a spectacular sunset.
We drove to the Pinnacles on the first night we got there which was quite a meaningful sight - you drive around the outside edge of the desert by car and with the car lights it is spooky. You get out ad walk and it is pitch black with these huge pillars looking down at you.

A SNAKE!!! A REAL LIVE ONE!

Out of the shifting yellow sands rise thousands of huge limestone pillars, standing in stark contrast to the surrounding low heath lands of this coast. The Pinnacles were formed when winter rain leached the lime from the sands, cementing grains of sand together underneath eye level.

Vegetation became established and stabilised the dunes. At the same time an acidic layer of soil developed over the remaining quartz sand and made the Pinnacles underneath hard.
THEN cracks formed in between and the winds blew strongly moving the soft sand away from the Pinnacles leaving the exposed hard columns which are spectacular. It looks like the Alien has landed.

There were SO MANY FLIES!!

It was roasting hot -we had planned to eat a picnic brunch on the beautiful golden sands but we ended up balancing tubs of dip and cartons of juice on the dashboard and gazing out from the car windscreen. Impressive none-the-less!!
Nirv and Vistara
The next day we went back again and it was awesome BUT there were literally MILLIONS of flies. That is why you will see the pictures of us with scarves on our heads. The flies were SO BAD that if you took the scarf off you instantly had about 20 around your face and lips - I even swallowed one- yuck!!

All in all a great trip and to be highly recommended particularly for those of you in Perth who have NEVER BEEN.
The coast alongside is spectacular. White sands and brilliant sunshine...we had to go in for a dip...well it woul dbe rude not to...eh? Am I tempting you...
