Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse walk and Climbing the Lighthouse
Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse

Cape Naturaliste LighthouseThe three (four) of us set off on the 1.5k walk around one of the most beautiful parts of the South West Australian Coastline. The last time Vibodha and I did this walk there was just the two (three) of us so it was beautiful for us to now be there with Devon.

It seems like its a family tradition... to take the walk...

Cape Naturaliste LighthouseOur adventure brought us up and over paths, alongside the ocean on a high cliff and the most beautiful grass and bush land.

The sun was shining (even though it is mid winter) and picnic in hand we hiked together, our little family.

Cape Naturaliste LighthouseArriving back at the Lighthouse we thought it would be a great experience to take Devon all the way to the top!

We were all really excited. The tour guides were very friendly and informative.

They shared with us how it took three men to operate the lighthouse.

They were on 4 hour shifts around the clock.

Lighthouses in the 1900's took an immense amount of work.

We climbed up the stairs which were made from teak wood that came all the way from England.

Two floors and over 100 stairs later we emerged at the top!

The view was well worth it!

It was a beautiful, clear winters day, perfect for visiting a lighthouse.

The air fresh air and sunlight were very nourishing to the body and soul.

What an amazing contraption. A giant lens floating on a bath of mercury. A small motor, smaller than lawnmower rotated the lens.

It had large shade covers to cover the lens in case it ever stopped spinning to protect the surrounding vegetation.

Devon and I ran around and around and around and around and around the top of the lighthouse, playing chase with each other.

Devon had so much fun up there!

So did I!!

He listened to the tour guide as she shared things and was fascinated by what he could see. He loved the shiny lens at the top. It was amazing to watch his little brain process his experiences - he really takes life on.

Devon was awesome, as always.
He does like being an explorer.

How lucky and privileged I am to be his Mum!!
