How to describe him.

Where do I even begin?

It makes me think about how I would describe other people in my life... my brother, father, mother, sister...

How do you begin to describe something so special? so individual? so unique? so miraculous?

You KNOW what I mean.

The wonderment of the miracle of who and what we are, as conscious human beings. We are alive. Moving, breathing, talking, eating miracles.

Each one of us.

But back to Devon.

What is HE like?

Well, he's all that. And some.

The 'and some' I refer to is the consciousness that I see peeking out of this baby's eyes. It is amazing.

He now has a vocabulary.

HOT, COLD, DOG, FOOD, LIGHT, BYE BYE BABY, and my favourite LOVE.

He has this vocabulary EVEN THOUGH HE CAN NOT SPEAK YET.

When we were on our round the world trip (see march 04) we met a family in LA traveling to Central America. They mentioned this to us, and we saw their young children using the signs, so we bought a copy and BOY ARE WE GLAD WE DID. Devon can communicate NOW, at 10 months. Amazing.

My favourite, as I said, is LOVE.

For LOVE he puts out his finger (E.T.-like) and you touch fingers.

So far, the COOLEST thing I think I have ever seen is BELOW, where Devon reached out to MY MOM (in Philadelphia) when she stuck out her finger and said I love you .

He actually REACHED OUT AND TOUCHED THE SCREEN.

I know that anthropologists say it takes us a LONG TIME to evolve, but LOOK at this!!!

Ten and a half months old and this little baby is communicating with MY mother on the other side of the world via a webcam.

Amazing, Amazing, Amazing. Amazing!

And you know what?

All of us are.

Each and every one.
