The Birthing Room & The Birthing Pool
Fremantle, Western Australia
|
| |
This
is a Birthing Pool.
I don't know whether it is typical of birthing pools around the
world or not, but it's amazingly effective.
I'll show you how we put it together and made it look (and feel)
comfy for mom and baby. |
It's
made of eight boards which are hinged together in pairs of two.
The four hinged sets sit on an octagonal piece of foam and interlock. |
The
pool which we were given by the Community Midwifery Program here in
Western Australia, has a code so you know which boards lock onto which. |
Then,
you lay a large sheet of thick black plastic over the entire structure.
Clip on the nice big comfortable foam pads. |
These
pads have a groove for affixing them to the frame. |
Then,
what WE did was add another layer of foam on the inside, add a few
small pillows for extra comfort and then covered the entire frame,
plastic and foam pads with YELLOW striped blankets (which we picked
up at a garage sale for $5). |
THEN,
we covered everything with CLEAR plastic, tied it to the frame with
the rope supplied (basically ran the rope around and around the whole
frame to hold the plastic down), and filled it with water. |
It
took one hour to fill the entire pool with water but the water stayed
HOT for hours.
We'll show you more of the birthing pool when we USE IT!
