Fairbridge Festival 2003
Fun at Fairbridge – a World of Music in One Weekend
Western Australia

Over the Easter Break is the much acclaimed and fun Fairbridge Music Festival, which takes place about 1 hour south of Fremantle [South Perth] in Fairbridge.

You may remember that 3 years ago we went to this festival with Nis the kids and Vistara and this year we choose to go back again for some more fun, camping and to help Nis run his Lyre stall!! (See Fairbridge 2000)

On Friday morning [25th April], we drove down, Nis and the kids were down already the night before.

We arrived in the aftermath of the rain and for those of you who don’t know me well…CAMPING and me do not get on too well together and I was half looking forward to and half dreading the experience!!

In the cold morning air and on the damp grass I surveyed what was to be our new home for the next 2 nights…give me bricks and mortar any day!!

(Blowing up my mattress - my hero!)

With all the music, the great energy and everyone in such happy and excited spirits, it wasn’t too long before I forgot my surrounding and got right into the atmosphere.

There are loads of music venues, tents, the Chapel, Marquees, the Wine Bar, the Dining Room etc etc. They all play music constantly and you can choose which things to go to. They have many activities for children too!

Some of the artists we saw were: Desert Child, Quinstruments, Hottentots, The Bayou Brothers, Ochre, Lil Fi, Wadumbah, Tok Pan Tok, Knotwork, Frencham Smith, Machitun, Junkadelic and lots of Irish music of course!!

There was a huge selection and the music was awesome, I even learned how to Hip Hop dance!!

There were even angels at the Festival!

Vibodha spent a lot of time on the stall during the day and in the evenings from 5pm we had off to relax and have more fun. To check Nis’s lyres go to: www.globaltickit.com/pulseart

In the evenings we had beautiful meals that Danica and I had prepred for 4 hours on the Wednesday. We froze them and brought them in a cooler. Fajitas, Pasta and Curry yummy!!

(Nis's Lyres - Actually the one with the sound box [the hole] was made by Vibodha)

There were periods of heavy rain, where you could almost here the collective groans from all the campers.

The showers were luke warm, and the beds were freezing for the first half and hour of being there.

Getting up in the middle of the night was AWESOME as I am sure you can imagine!!!

All in all a great time was had by all, including us!
